Lean Chocolate Trifle

Although I wouldn’t say this recipe is necessarily healthy, we’ve reduced some calories by eliminating eggs and oil.


1 package (18oz) chocolate fudge cake mix
1 can Coke Zero
1 package (6oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
1/2 cup strong coffee/espresso
1 carton (12oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
6 Heath bars crushed


The dessert will look like a huge hot fudge sunday by the time you’re done with it.

Bake cake by simply mixing the fudge cake mix with the coke zero.  Nothing else, no eggs, no oil.  Bake according to the package, check for doneness.

Prepare pudding according to package directions; set aside.

Crumble the cake and put a very small amount to the side (for decorative topping later)

Place half of the cake crumbs in the bottom of a 4 1/2 or 5qt trifle dish (really big sunday dish) or decorative glass bowl.

Layer with half of the coffee, half of the pudding, half of the whipped topping and half of the crushed candy bars.

Repeat the layers of cake, coffee, pudding and whipped topping.

Combine remaining crushed candy bars with reserved cake crumbs; sprinkle over top.

Refrigerate 4.5 hours before serving
